COOPARM, the Rodríguez de Mendoza Agricultural Cooperative (COOPARM) was founded in 1990 by Father Antonio Rodríguez Arana, who sought to address the low prices that coffee farmers received from traders. He gathered a group of producers to establish the Rodríguez de Mendoza Agricultural Producers Association (APARM). In 1998, COOPARM took a significant step by exporting directly and transitioned to a cooperative in 2008. Today, it has over 500 members spread throughout the province and is recognized for its substantial impact on the region's economic and social development.
In response to global ecological concerns, COOPARM has developed an extensive reforestation and agroforestry program in partnership with PUR PROJECT. This initiative involves planting timber trees alongside coffee plants, providing shade and creating an additional income source for coffee farmers in the medium term. The Technical Area offers training to members to enhance the technological level of their crops and ensure the production of quality coffee. The production is 100% organic, with no artificial chemicals used, promoting environmental health. Harvesting is done by hand, with farmers meticulously cleaning and selecting the beans. Additionally, the coffee is dried using solar dryers, which are environmentally friendly and help meet the quality standards demanded by customers. |
