It was with the objective of getting direct entry to international buyers that the Asociación de Pequeños Productores de Café Manos Campesinas was created in 1996. Established as a secondary level organization, the cooperative created direct export channels for a founding group of 6 farmer associations. Today, Manos Campesinas is consist of 11 cooperative groups throughout the departments of San Marcos, Quetzaltenango, Sololá and Chimaltenango, and it represents over 1,200 farming families. The association’s main values consist of social responsibility, quality, sustainability, and environmental protection.
