Founded in 1960, Coope Tarrazú is now the largest coop in Los Santos Tarrazú, a region known for producing the finest coffees in Costa Rica. The cooperative counts around 3,200 producers and supports them by providing loans, technical assistance, and fertilizer at reduced prices. Since 2003, Coope Tarrazú has been implementing strong environmentally responsible practices. Today, it can offer Rainforest Alliance and Fair Trade certified coffee. In 2012, it started the program Café de Communidades, an initiative to leverage social responsibility efforts.
Region
Production takes place in Tarrazú, a well-known coffee growing region south of San José. The area combines rich volcanic soils, good precipitations, and high altitude. Coope Tarrazú operates in San Marcos and its areas of influence are San Marcos, Leon Cortes and Coralillo. |
Cup profile
Excellent body and fine acidity, typical from the Los Santos region. Dark chocolate, red fruits and cinnamon flavors are the main cup attributes. Floral, fruit and sweet fragrance are also present during the best harvest.
