A tedious trading session was abruptly awakened just before 11:30 EDT as London plunged 2.55% without a readily apparent reason, followed in slightly less dramatic fashion by Arabica.  Prior to these fireworks an early wait and see attitude was adopted, with little volatility throughout the European hours, as positive export data out of China supported various asset classes overnight.  Following yesterday’s record reverse swap auction in Brazil, the BCB again attempted to inject dollars into the market, and while intraday weakness in the currency was noted, by the time of this comment the currency had again moved inside 3.50, sabotaging the BCB’s efforts to weaken the currency.  With a litany of big picture macro events in the coming days, and coffee sitting at long term moving averages that don’t seem likely to incite heavy directional interest, one imagines traders will continue to cast a keen eye across the economic spectrum.
