03 Feb 2014 08:09 EST *DJ Arabica-Coffee Futures Up 4.2% at Highest Price Since July 18 February 03, 2014 08:09 ET (13:09 GMT) NEW YORK-Arabica-coffee futures surged to the highest point in more than six months Monday as dry weather in Brazil raised concerns about crop damage in the world's biggest coffee grower. Arabica coffee for delivery in March on ICE Futures U.S. was up 5% at $1.3150 a pound, the highest since July 18. "It's a weather problem: very, very dry weather," said Hernando de la Roche, a senior vice president a brokerage INTL FCStone. Abnormally dry weather could cause coffee trees to prematurely drop cherries, the fruit that contains the coffee beans, analysts said. Brazil is the world's biggest coffee grower and the source of about one-third of the world's coffee beans.
