Coffee from Papua New Guinea is grown in the Eastern and Western Highlands, where volcanic soil and a cool climate create an ideal environment for unique coffee cultivation. These mountains, such as the Owen Stanley Range and the Bismarck Mountains, are known for their altitudes of over 1,400 meters, which contribute to a slower development of the bean, enhancing its characteristics.
Small-scale farmers in the region hand-pick the cherries and process the beans traditionally, ensuring the flavor remains authentic. Grade B coffee from this area may not have the largest beans, but it offers a lot of character. In the cup, it has a medium body with a bright acidity that reminds you of plum or mandarin, with a subtle hint of cacao and a touch of earthiness. It’s a coffee that, though simple, holds a quality that you can feel in every sip. |
