Finca Los Pocitos – Sustainable Coffee from Nicaragua
Finca Los Pocitos, part of the Saxony Estate Coffee organization, is located at 950 meters above sea level in the Jinotega region of Nicaragua, surrounded by native forests and wildlife preserves. This agroforestry farm grows coffee alongside cocoa and other trees, creating a natural ecosystem that provides essential nutrients to the coffee plants and supports local biodiversity. The farm is home to diverse wildlife, with 17% of its land preserved as part of the Peñas Blancas Nature Reserve. Finca Los Pocitos is committed to improving the living conditions of the nearby Abisinia community, including providing better drinking water. During harvest, the cherries are handpicked at peak ripeness, sorted in water to remove lower-quality beans, and processed with care. After pulping and fermentation, the coffee is washed, cleaned, and dried to perfection, ensuring a high-quality product. Dedicated to environmental sustainability, Finca Los Pocitos filters and treats water used in processing, before returning it to local systems, maintaining the balance between quality coffee production and ecosystem health. |
