Bener Meriah is the main coffee production center in the central region of Aceh, with 48,000 hectares dedicated to coffee cultivation, primarily Arabica varieties like Ateng Gayo, Tim-Tim, and P88. The highlands of Gayo, located between 1,400 and 1,600 meters above sea level, provide an ideal climate for coffee growing.
The producer cooperative has 706 farmer members, cultivating varieties such as Arabica Bourbon, Tim-Tim, Ateng Super, Catimor, and P88. The coffee farms are fully productive, offering excellent flavor with characteristics like medium acidity, full body, and notes of earthy, leather, tobacco.
The cooperative provides guidance and solutions to farmers on issues such as diseases, pests, post-harvest processing, and sales. The total estimated harvest from members is 591,196 kg, and the cooperative handles the coffee's marketing both locally and internationally. Additionally, it has received organic certification and is in the process of obtaining Fairtrade certification. The farmers are hopeful for a successful relationship with international buyers to ensure the continuity of the business.
