Asociación San Juan is a cooperative focused on producing high-quality coffee while supporting sustainable farming practices. With a strong commitment to social inclusion and equal opportunities, the cooperative not only improves the quality of life for its members but also contributes to environmental preservation by promoting responsible coffee cultivation. Through the sale of their premium coffee, Asociación San Juan creates a positive impact on local communities, encouraging sustainable farming methods and raising awareness about deforestation. The cooperative also supports the professional growth of its members, helping them gain valuable skills in the coffee industry. Founded in January 2016 with 66 founding members, Asociación San Juan began as a small committee focused on organic farming. In 2019, it officially became an association—APROCASJ—growing to 233 members. Located in the San Ignacio district of the Cajamarca region, near the Ecuador-Ecuador border, all the cooperative members are small-scale farmers, with families contributing much of the labor. The farms are located between 1,400 and 2,000 meters above sea level and produce a variety of coffee, including popular varieties like Catuaí, Catimor, and Bourbon, known for their exceptional quality. The cooperative is made up of 24 bases spread across various regions, and they coordinate everything from their central office in San Ignacio to ensure their members are supported and stay connected.
