Morgan Stanley Coffee Report

The Arabica market started the week with a friendly performance as encouraging technical indicators kept short term systems engaged on the buy side while a lack of origin hedge selling pressure caused buyers to reach for offers.  Funds came in at net short 2,743 lots on Friday’s COT report which also aided in stoking the embers.  The real staged a 1% rally ($r 3.4973 at high), and commodities rallied (CRB +1.8%) while investors await updates on steps the  government will take to address Brazil’s economic woes.  With all planets aligned  N.Y.  was able to trade above the 13120 highs of the 21st of April which triggered a fresh round of technically inspired buying, further abetted once the 13285 high of March 23rd was breached. While the lion’s share of the buying was spec related industry joined momentum buyers and extended some cover in July.  A close just off the high of the day (13380) with decent volume of 40,845 lots which included  10,651 spreads places the next major level of resistance at the March 23 high of 13820 basis the second month chart.  London posted a new 7 plus month high however failed to keep pace with N.Y. as witnessed by a 2 cent widening of the arb.
