Arabica coffee futures closed lower Friday on quiet day, reflecting the long weekend. The market will
be close on Monday on observance of the Labor day holiday. The active contract for December
delivery lost 40 points to 119.15 cents. Volume reached 11,923 lots including 1,615 switches. The
active December-March switch ended unchanged at -3.50 cents. Usually the structure tends to
widened to -3.5 to -4.0 cents before the FND Nov 18. The real continued to depreciate, trading at
BRL3.8375 at 2:00 pm EST. During the week, Arabica prices drop 4.90 cents per pound or 3.95
percent. Spec short covering pared the losses on Thursday, when the market posted new contract’s
lows at 117.75.
